Moth Chasing the Sun 12
Yan Xianchuan let out a low whistle from the sidelines. "You two are really in sync."
Teresa shrugged. "Guess that's what they mean by 'birds of a feather flock together.'"
Qi Ziyang shot her a glare. "Do you even know how to talk? It's more like 'touch pitch and be defiled.' You're the one who corrupted me!"
Teresa smirked. "Ha! That's called 'shifting the blame when you're embarrassed.'"
Qi Ziyang rubbed the head of the big orange tabby that had padded over to nuzzle his leg, then muttered, "Go on, bite her!"
The tabby stretched lazily and flopped onto the ground with a thud.
"Do you want to get back at the Yue family?" Yan Xianchuan said, her eyes lighting up. "Just a divorce won't even scratch them. That's nowhere near enough!"
She chopped the air with her hand, barely containing her excitement. "How about we just kill them all?"
Both of them froze. Even though they had no qualms about killing, this Yan family member seemed a little too eager.
Qi Ziyang thought to himself: Am I the victim here, or is she?
But she didn't seem like the type to make empty threats. Anyone willing to stand up for a stranger she'd only met once had to be a genuinely good person, right?
Especially since the one being defended was himself. It was touching, deeply touching.
Qi Ziyang didn't hesitate long. "Honestly, I've thought about it."
"Ever since I was young, they've taught me to endure, saying it was for the sake of my future children. Once I married into another family, I'd belong to them, and following their rules was only natural. That never sat right with me. Why should that be the case?"
"As someone who can bear children, why don't betas have to deal with any of this? They love and hate freely, doing whatever they want. Why does it change so drastically for omegas?"
"Just because an omega's children have better genes? As if we shoulder the burden of society's future, and not popping out kids makes us the villains holding humanity back."
Qi Ziyang sneered. "Tying all of humanity's progress to an omega's womb—how absurd is that?"
"Call me a heretic or a criminal, but I only have one life, so why not live it boldly?"
A wry smile tugged at his lips. "I've already decided: after dealing with these people, I'll travel around, helping the needy and punishing the wicked. If I see anyone oppressing omegas, I'll take them out."
Yan Xianchuan clapped her hands like a seal. "Great! I'm all for it!"
She rolled up her sleeves. "Come on, let's go slaughter the Yues right now."
"Wait, wait!" Qi Ziyang and Teresa exchanged alarmed looks. "You're just going to barge in like that?"
"What else would I do?" Yan Xianchuan asked, puzzled. "Go to the Yue residence, kill everyone, and be done with it. What more is there to plan?"
Fine, she was a woman of action.
Teresa rubbed her sore neck, all too familiar with that trait.
"No, the Lin family just suffered a major incident not long ago, and it hasn't caused a public uproar yet—likely because someone has been suppressing it. But if the Yue family follows suit, the social impact would be too severe."
Qi Ziyang shook his head. "Public opinion would spiral out of control. The Investigation Bureau would have to step in and find someone to pin both incidents on. They'd never let it pass as an accident."
"Two families wiped out in such a short span? Calling it an accident would be too convenient."
He paused, glancing at Yan Xianchuan, who was listening intently. A nagging thought crossed his mind: Could she have been involved in the Lin family incident?
That had clearly been deliberate, and whoever had the power to wipe out the entire Lin family and silence the Investigation Bureau, passing it off as an accident, was no small player.
And who would benefit from the Lin family's downfall? The Yan family, of course.
The old manager had been replaced, and the Lin family was annihilated right after. How could those two events be unrelated?
With that thought, Qi Ziyang's mind wandered into conspiracy territory: Could her eagerness to target the Yue family be sanctioned by the Yan family?
But the Yue family primarily dealt in food products, so they didn't seem to have any business conflicts with the Yan family.
Maybe the Yan family was trying to turn Dingyang City into their own fiefdom?
Given Dingyang City's strategic location, major families had all extended their influence there, quietly competing. It made perfect sense for the Yan family to want to expand their turf.
His thoughts raced through various family dynamics, unaware that Yan Xianchuan had no connection to the Yan family. She was simply feeling restless, wanting to kill to vent, and had fabricated a righteous excuse to justify it.
After all, she had promised Lu Mingqiu she'd try to be a normal person and handle things properly.
—Sure, I've killed people, but they were all bad, so that still counts as doing good.
And doing good? How is that not normal?
"So what do you plan to do?" Yan Xianchuan felt a bit disappointed, but since she'd offered to help, she couldn't just go off on her own.
If the person she was helping didn't appreciate it, wouldn't that be forcing herself on them?
"We'll pick them off one by one." Qi Ziyang snapped back to the present. "I already have a target in mind: Yue Lingxiu. She's Yue Yongjian's sister, not too bright, and easily provoked."
"Then it's settled," Yan Xianchuan said seriously. "When you go see her tomorrow, make sure to call me."
Qi Ziyang stammered, "Ah? Ah... okay, sure."
Qi Ziyang added, "Then let's add each other as friends first."
Yan Xianchuan gained a new friend and went home to sleep, content. The next day, Qi Ziyang kept his promise and called her, saying they were heading to the Yue residence.
As she was about to leave, Xie Five, who had come to report on business as usual, blocked her path. He naturally asked, "Where are you off to? Should I call a car?"
She replied, "Just going out to play."
A knowing look crossed Xie Five's face, and he said, "Have a good time."
Yan Xianchuan found him a bit odd but didn't dwell on it. As she took the elevator down, it suddenly hit her—did he think she was going to have a rendezvous?
That suggestive look, that subtle, insinuating tone—wasn't that exactly what it meant?
Lu Mingqiu had just left recently, and she was an alpha looking for some fun. Wasn't that only natural?
Besides, although Lu Mingqiu was beautiful, eating the same dish too often gets monotonous.
Xie Five had even considered recommending a few private clubs but then thought better of it. She had just taken office, a puppet figurehead, so there was no need to be so eager in his flattery.
Even flattery has its timing. This sort of topic was reserved for close acquaintances, and they weren't there yet.
He had inferred Yan Xianchuan's intentions based on typical alpha behavior, but it disgusted her.
Were alphas really just creatures consumed by lust?
Though, well... she had thought about it a bit more when she first experienced it, but wasn't that a normal reaction for a novice?
Now she rarely thought about it.
Seeing someone you like and wanting intimacy is understandable because that's what liking entails. But wanting only intimacy? Isn't that just pure perversion?
Such a person probably doesn't truly love anyone; they just want a convenient outlet for their desires.
Yan Xianchuan genuinely believed that being able to hold hands occasionally was more than enough.
She could sense that Lu Mingqiu treated her differently from others. That was sufficient. Wasn't that special treatment a form of affection?
With that thought, she snapped a photo and sent it to Lu Mingqiu.
【Look at this cloud, doesn't it look like a starfish?】
【I'm heading out to meet Qi Ziyang.】
True to her word, Lu Mingqiu instantly replied with a picture—a group of people carrying a coffin through a forest.
【I'm at a funeral. Behave yourself and don't cause trouble. I'll be back in a couple of days.】
What did she mean by 'cause trouble'? Yan Xianchuan's eyes darted around, avoiding the screen. She was clearly off to do a good deed.
Yan Xianchuan and Qi Ziyang arrived at the Yue residence together, where a housekeeper let them in. Yue's mother wasn't home—she'd gone to the hospital to visit her precious son—and Yue's father was at the office.
Only Yue Lingxiu was home, which wasn't a coincidence; Qi Ziyang had bribed a maid to tip him off.
He had brought two servants to help him pack, making quite a racket, which woke Yue Lingxiu from her slumber in the bedroom.
The young lady was used to throwing her weight around and couldn't stand being disturbed. She kicked open her bedroom door and stormed over, fuming. "Can you keep it down? Don't you know I'm sleeping! Who told you to make such a fuss here? Where's the housekeeper? Fire these two clueless servants!"
"Well, if it isn't my dear sister-in-law. What, still not awake at this hour?" Qi Ziyang stepped out of the bedroom. "Right, I forgot—you don't wake up until after one in the afternoon. Sorry to disturb you. You'll just have to put up with it."
"Qi Ziyang!" Yue Lingxiu gritted her teeth. "You shameless wretch! How dare you come back? You ruined my brother, and you still have the nerve to set foot in this house?"
"You're really good at twisting the truth," Qi Ziyang said gleefully. "Your brother brought it on himself. He deserved that beating. I'm the victim here, but somehow it's my fault in your eyes? Did I force your brother to misbehave at the birthday banquet? Did I hold his hand?"
"You're an omega who couldn't keep her husband's heart," Yue Lingxiu jabbed a finger at him. "He got bored and went looking for other women. Whose fault is that if not yours? Get out of here right now. You're not welcome in this house."
Yan Xianchuan, hearing the commotion from inside, couldn't resist. She had come for the drama, after all. She stepped out, and Yue Lingxiu spotted her immediately.
"Miss Yan?! What are you doing here?"
The eldest Miss Yue's gaze flickered between the two, her mind crawling with dirty thoughts. "Oh, I see. So that's why you're so bold today, daring to talk back to me. You've found yourself a new lover!"
She had come for gossip only to be caught in the crossfire. Yan Xianchuan glared at her in displeasure. "He and I have nothing to do with each other."
Yue Lingxiu snorted coldly, clearly not believing a word.
Nothing to do with each other? Then why would she come all the way here to back him up?
This Miss Yan might look proper, but her taste was clearly rubbish, going for trash like Qi Ziyang.
Her dim mind and narrow vision could only reach such a conclusion.
Yue Lingxiu sneered. "You have your own family's business and can do as you please, but this is my house, and I'm the one in charge here. The two of you showing up uninvited—do you think you're in the right?"
